Unexpected Insights

Strange how articulating something in the comments of someone's blog turns out to be more than you imagined. The quote below has just surprised me in such a situation, but it's a sentiment I wanted to record here for future reference.

In a way, one of the silver linings of my mother's stroke is the newly developed closeness and patience I have found in our relationship. I fear that the closer she gets back to normal, the more our relationship will revert to what it was.

But, first of all, she will not get completely back to normal. And second, no matter what, these past weeks have made up for a good deal of the conflict we've had in the past.
